While an officer was taking that report, Pittsburgh police responded to a crash where a county truck hit a pole in the 4600 block of Baum Boulevard. The driver fled the scene.
When police investigated the scene of the crash, they discovered the stolen and wrecked 2017 Chevrolet Silverado truck and a Stihl leaf backpack blower that had also been stolen from county property.
Detectives determined 47-year-old Gregory Galvez, from Bloomfield, was the primary suspect. He was taken into custody in the Strip District on July 12. He had marijuana and drug paraphernalia on him when he was detained, police said.
Galvez is charged with two counts of theft by unlawful taking, two counts of receiving stolen property, accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property, as well as narcotics-related charges and vehicle code violations. He will be transported to the Allegheny County Jail for arraignment.
