PITTSBURGH — You don’t have to leave Pittsburgh to go out of this world now that there’s a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art space museum in the city’s North Side.
Moonshot Museum is located inside the headquarters of space company ASTROBOTIC Technology on North Lincoln Avenue.
The company builds lunar landers and lunar rovers.
“It feels so great to finally be open. Finally, be open... we’ve launched right,” said Sam Moore, the executive director of Moonshot Museum.
The museum lets visitors see the future of space exploration with high-tech interactive and educational exhibits.
“This is pretty cool. I’m an aerospace engineering student. So this is right up my alley. The fact that it’s coming to Pittsburgh is one of the coolest things that I get to experience in my hometown,” said college student Ruth Miller.
Lori Glaze, the director of the planetary science division with NASA took part in the opening ceremonies.
“Space exploration is number one a way to answer our deepest curiosities about where we came from and what else is out there. I think that’s one of the important things about space exploration and it inspires all of us to keep going and looking even further,” said Glaze.
A huge attraction in the museum is an authentic lunar spacecraft being built by space industry professionals. That craft is scheduled to go to the moon in early 2023.
“Just to just come and see the history that Pittsburgh has made in going in space is... it means a lot for us, not only in the U.S. region but also on the northside of Pittsburgh,” said Audie Chapman.
The Moonshot Museum will be open year-round Wednesday through Sunday.
