PITTSBURGH — At the beginning of July, Point Park University announced it had earned full NCAA Division II membership, and now officials say the new status has already given the university a boost.

Point Park’s NCAA status is effective starting Sept. 1 after a waiver to complete Point Park’s three-year NCAA provisional membership process in just two years was approved after the university completed the multi-year transition a year early.

President Chris W. Brussalis said that the university has already seen a 128% increase in student athletes since the university joined the NCAA. According to Marlin Collingwood, vice president of enrollment management, the increase is from around 330 to about 660 student-athletes.

Collingwood said it’s also helped with recruitment for their freshman class ahead of the fall semester.
