New driver for the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda as Chip Ganassi Racing signs Lundgaard for IndyCar

There’ll be a new driver behind the wheel of the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda as Danish driver Christian Lundgaard succeeds Scott Dixon and the Pittsburgh-based bank continues its partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing.

CGR announced Tuesday that it has signed the driver to a multiyear contract. Lundgaard, 25, is a three-time IndyCar winner.

PNC Bank has been a partner of CGR since 2013 and primary partner on the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda since 2018. At that time, Bill Demchak, PNC chairman and CEO, said it “extends our brand on a national basis.” PNC has since extended its footprint from coast to coast. It has celebrated six IndyCar championships with CGR, two of which were with the No. 9 team.

“We are excited to begin a new era with Chip Ganassi Racing and what’s ahead with Christian taking the wheel of the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda,” Lou Cestello, head of PNC’s regional presidents, said in a prepared statement. ”He’s already achieved some remarkable milestones early in his career, and we’re looking forward to watching him build on that success in 2027 and beyond.” Cestello is also PNC regional president for Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania.
