SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The first phase of redevelopment at a park in Fayette County is officially underway.
Officials broke ground at Mill Run Park in Springfield Township on Tuesday.
The popular park got a $70,000 grant last year from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Community Conservation Partnerships Program. That grant in tandem with $40,000 in county funds makes the first two parts of this project possible.
During the redevelopment, officials say the park’s parking lots and paths will receive upgrades to make them ADA compliant and a new walking trail will be constructed.
“We’re finishing the design and permitting phase now and planning for additional improvements at the park for the playground and ballfields,” Art Cappella said. “The park has been untouched for about 40 years, so it’s in need of an upgrade. It looked the same when I played ball there as a kid. The ultimate goal is to enhance tourism for everyone coming to the area, because the park really is a multi-use place for all seasons.”
Future phases of park improvements go out to bid in the coming months.
