PITTSBURGH — A newborn female gorilla was welcomed to the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium on Valentine’s Day — and she now has a name!
The name Charlotte was selected from almost 700 names submitted to the zoo’s baby naming contest.
The contest raised nearly $5,000 for animal care and Zoo upkeep.
The winning name was suggested by three guests: Rachel R. from Pittsburgh, Nathan S. from Washington, and Rachel L. from Elizabeth.
“We thank all our participants, who submitted thoughtful, thematic, funny, beautiful, and heartwarming names – your support is helping build a future for animals like Charlotte. We hope you’ll come visit her soon!” the zoo said in a Facebook post.
