Rain returns Saturday, sticks around into Sunday

PITTSBURGH — Enjoy the dry start to the weekend while it lasts. Rain returns late Saturday night and will linger off and on throughout Sunday, bringing over 1 inch of rainfall and wind gusts up to 25 mph that could trigger localized flooding.

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect as you plan your weekend.

The Timeline: When will it rain?

  • Saturday Day: Completely dry and the best time for outdoor activities.
  • Late Saturday Night: Showers begin moving into the region.
  • Sunday Before Sunrise: The first steady round of heavy rain arrives, targeting areas north and west of Pittsburgh.
  • Sunday Afternoon & Evening: A second widespread round of rain will impact the entire viewing area.

Steelers Game Impact

A break between the two steady rounds of rain is expected on Sunday, which may provide some dry time just in time for the Steelers game. Keep the rain gear handy just in case.

Impacts & Hazards: What to watch for

  • Heavy Rainfall: Total accumulations are expected to top out above 1″, creating a risk for localized flooding in low-lying areas.
  • Gusty Winds: Expect wind gusts between 20 mph and 25 mph.
  • Clogged Drains: Gusty winds will blow leaves and could clog drains, increasing the threat of localized flooding.
