BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — Eric DiTullio has stepped down as the Seneca Valley school board president after the backlash for his inflammatory social media post that upset many parents and community members.
“I thought it was very tone deaf and think the parents and students of the school district, we deserved a little more discretion on their behalf and by our elected officials and the people who represent us,” said parent Megan Hall.

Hall was one of many parents who thought DiTullio should resign. During Monday’s school board meeting, the board voted 7 to 1 accepting his resignation as president. Yet he still remains on the board. Some parents think that’s fair.
“I think stepping down was the right response in this situation,” said Hall.

DiTullio had no comment on his resignation. Last week, he deleted the post and said he recognized that the meme he shared upset some people. DiTullio said that was not his intention and he failed to consider how it may have been perceived. “I do not take what occurred in Uvalde lightly. And I certainly do not take lightly the killing of 19 children and their two teachers. I am sorry for the negative light this shed on my district,” said DiTullio.
Jim Nickel was approved as the new school board president.
