Some travelers turn to renting cars instead of flying due to Southwest cancellations

PITTSBURGH — There are new developments in the Southwest travel nightmare as the airline’s CEO is promising to “make good” to passengers.

Nearly 16,000 flights have been canceled since December 22.

Friday, things returned to normal operations with fewer than 1% of flights canceled according to FlightAware.

The tracker’s prediction for Saturday shows no disruptions to Southwest flights.

Meantime, it was a mad dash for some to rent a car in order to make it to their destinations.

Many travelers relying on Southwest airlines to get them home earlier this week are now hitting the roads instead. Thousands of stranded passengers said after days of trying to rebook they have opted to rent a car and drive instead, from Orlando to Chicago, we spoke with stranded Southwest passengers.
