Community leaders help boost program that keeps local kids off the street

PITTSBURGH — A program that helps keep kids off the streets, is finally getting the help it needs to expand.

“I appreciate it a lot because it helps me stay out of the way and out of the streets. It helps me grow more,” Damien Morrison said.

From painting to mowing lawns to earning and saving money, Kutz for Kollege gives young adults skills that will help them as adults.

“It helped me do things that men should do whenever they grow up,” Morrison said.

“I just want to keep these kids off the streets. I’ve lost so many kids that I knew,” said owner Darrick Curington.

Keeping the program afloat has been a challenge because Curington said he carries most of the financial burden. But now, a local business owner is getting involved by providing new lawn mowers.

Curington also coaches football on the North Side and said there’s also a big need there.
