According to KABB-TV, the deadly crash happened about 6:30 p.m. local time after the Boerne-bound plane left Sugar Land Airport. Officials said the single-engine aircraft began having engine problems, prompting the pilot to try to land at San Antonio International Airport.
The Piper PA-24-250 missed its destination by about 150 yards and crashed onto nearby West Rhapsody Drive, killing the two men and one woman on board, the news outlets reported. Nobody else was hurt, authorities said.
San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said crews arrived to find the plane "almost on the sidewalk," according to KABB. "It could have been much worse" if the plane had struck an apartment complex or U.S. 281, he added.
