DENVER — These Pittsburgh Penguins are a lot of things. Predictable isn’t one of them.

Consider that they had lost four games in a row before Wednesday night, a streak bookended by losses on home ice to a couple of teams that are going to sit out the Stanley Cup playoffs this spring.

And that they were on the road, playing the defending Cup champions, who had won their previous six games in a row and were on a 21-5-3 roll overall.
