2nd slow-moving superload to move through Western Pennsylvania next week

Another slow-moving superload will travel through Western Pennsylvania again next week.

The truck will travel through parts of Armstrong, Indiana and Westmoreland counties.

Multiple entities, including escort vehicles, Pennsylvania State Police and bucket trucks to lift wires as needed, will be in front of and behind the superload.

PennDOT is making drivers aware that the truck will, at times, move like a rolling slowdown, using two lanes, which will result in traffic stoppages and travel delays. The truck will travel at approximately 10-25 miles per hour, or slower as needed.

Here’s the route it will take:

Monday, Sept. 21

• Starting at 9 a.m., the second load will travel from Schenley to Route 66 through Leechburg and Apollo to Delmont, then on to Route 22.
• It will continue to the Westmoreland/Indiana County line on Route 22 towards Blairsville.
• It will then pull off at a staging area near Blairsville to install additional equipment to continue transport.
• Travel will resume at 7 p.m. along Route 22/119. Drivers west of the Indiana County line should expect to utilize a detour route.
• As the superload travels along Route 22/119 past Blairsville to its staging area along Route 119, drivers will be unable to pass the superload and can expect to travel at a very slow speed.
• All vehicles travelling on Route 22/119 west of the Indiana County line will detour using Bairdstown Road/West Market Street to East Market Street/Old William Penn Highway to the Route 22/119 interchange.
• Drivers east of the Indiana County line should expect to encounter a rolling slowdown on Route 22 East while the superload is crossing the bridge over the Conemaugh River.

Tuesday, Sept. 22

• The load will continue on its route at 9 a.m. It will travel onto Campbells Mill Road (Route 3011) to Blacklick Road (Route 3013) to the Homer City Power Plant.

All vehicles on Tuesday will be detoured at the Route 119 intersection with Campbells Mill Road south to Route 22 West. Proceed across Route 22 West, then north on Route 217 to Blacklick Road.

Travel times, routes and detours for future superloads will be announced by PennDOT at later dates.
