Plans to build music venue, parking garage at site of former Civic Arena move forward

PITTSBURGH — Plans to build a music venue and parking garage at the site of the former Civic Arena are moving forward.

The last votes were taken Thursday, roughly three years after the project was first announced.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority voted Thursday afternoon on the $110 million proposal. It’s all part of the Lower Hill Redevelopment Project involving the Pittsburgh Penguins that will transform the former Civic Arena space into an entertainment venue run by Live Nation complete with a parking garage and retail space.

“We appreciate the leadership and collaboration of our County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Mayor Ed Gainey, and Councilman Daniel Lavelle, and we are eager to deliver an exciting new Live Nation music venue for Pittsburgh and add additional parking capacity for our fans and guests at PPG Paints Arena,” said Kevin Acklin, President of Business Operations of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The parking garage is projected to be complete in late summer 2024 and the music venue is estimated to be finished at the end of 2025.
