BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — The beginning of the school year is a time of adjustments. For one Ambridge mother, it’s not been a smooth transition.
“Terrible. Absolutely horrific.”
Lacey Sabol is frustrated. She has two kids. Both ride RJ Rhodes school buses, but they go to two different schools.
Her oldest son goes to Wesley Spectrum Academy. It’s about a 45-minute drive from her home in Ambridge. The trouble started on the first day of school.
“Seven o’clock came. They never showed up. Then, 7:30 came. No one showed up,” Sabol said. “I actually ended up having to call off work and take him to school because he couldn’t miss his first day.”
Since then, Sabol says it’s been hit-and-miss. Some days he’s picked up early. Some days, late. She’s also dealt with issues with her younger son, who goes to a nearby elementary school.
“He gets dropped off at 3:30, and 3:30 came and went, no bus. It took them until 15 to 20 minutes after the bus was supposed to be there to give parents a call that it was going to be 20 to 30 minutes late.”
The main issue for Sabol is the lack of communication. She says she’s heard mixed reasons for the inconsistency, including a driver shortage.
We reached out to RJ Rhodes Transit and never received a call back, but the company’s answering machine does mention that issue.
We are continuing to reach out to the company to find out what is being done to fix the issue and will update this story as we learn more.
