American Airlines adds new 1-stop international flights through Pittsburgh airport for summer 2027

American Airlines announced new one-stop international flight options from Pittsburgh International Airport for summer 2027.

The expanded service will connect local travelers through four major U.S. hubs to seven international destinations across Europe and Asia.

The expanded schedule connects Pittsburgh passengers through hubs in Philadelphia, N.Y., Charlotte and Chicago. The international locations included in the expansion are Tokyo, Reykjavik, Porto, Nice, Vienna, Amsterdam and Barcelona.

Service via Philadelphia International Airport includes three new European destinations.

Flights connecting to Porto, Portugal, begin March 28, 2027, marking the first time American Airlines has served the city. Flights to Vienna, Austria, begin May 6, 2027, as another first-time destination for the carrier, with service scheduled through early January 2028. Route service connecting to Reykjavik, Iceland, starts May 27, 2027, returning to the airline’s network for the first time since 2019.

Philadelphia will handle five daily flights across these routes, utilizing Airbus A321XLR and Airbus A321neo aircraft.

Flights connecting through New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport include service to Amsterdam starting March 28, 2027, and Nice, France, starting May 6, 2027, both using Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

American is also adding a fourth daily flight from JFK to London Heathrow.

From Charlotte Douglas International Airport, six daily flights will offer connections to Barcelona starting May 27, 2027, operated on Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.

Connecting service through Chicago O’Hare International Airport includes five daily flights to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport beginning March 19, 2027. That route will be operated using Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

“Coming off a summer of celebration, American is growing to offer new destinations and routes, bolstering our premium global route offerings,” said Brian Znotins, senior vice president of network and schedule planning at American Airlines. “Our international network has expanded to offer destinations to satisfy every travel palate. Combined with our investments enhancing our onboard product and inflight experience, travelers have more reasons to choose American when they fly around the world.”

American Airlines operates more than 6,000 daily flights to more than 350 destinations in more than 60 countries. The air carrier serves more than 200 million passengers annually and employs 130,000 aviation workers worldwide.

Tickets for the new international routes go on sale Aug. 31 through the American Airlines website and mobile application.
