Gilchrist is the first African American and first the first woman to serve as the city’s EMS chief.
She reflected on the hard work and dedication it took to get the position and thanked everyone who helped her along the way.
“I am a servant of the public. I have always taken that role seriously. From my start here as an EMT, to now chief of the bureau - I cannot discount how I got here,” Gilchrist said.
The new EMS chief was born on the North side and has worked in the city for more than 20 years.
