SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The driver of a car that hit an 11-year-old girl as she was crossing the street to get on a school bus last week in Slippery Rock will be charged, according to police.

Slippery Rock Borough Police identified the driver as Gavin Watson of Munhall. They told Channel 11 last week that he is a Slippery Rock University student.

It happened at the intersection of Vincent and Franklin Streets just after 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 17. The girl was waiting for the school bus, which had stopped and activated its red lights and stop sign, according to police. As she started to cross Franklin Street, the girl was struck by a black Honda Civic, which was traveling eastbound on Franklin Street.

The girl was taken to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh by ambulance with suspected serious injuries. She is now home and recovering, police say.

Charges will be filed against Watson this week, police said.
