PITTSBURGH — A tentative agreement has been reached between Duquesne Light Company and striking union workers.
The Members of Local 29 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) announced the agreement at around 10 p.m. Thursday.
At around 10:40 p.m., a spokesperson for Duquesne Light Company shared the following statement.
“Duquesne Light Company (DLC) is pleased to announce that the company has reached a tentative agreement with IBEW Local 29 on a new five-year contract.
“We believe this agreement, forged through many days of discussion and negotiation with union leadership, confirms how much we value our represented workforce and their safety while also addressing our customers’ concerns regarding affordability and reliability.
“Several steps remain before the company returns to normal operations, including the union’s ratification of the agreement. DLC will continue to keep customers and the community informed throughout this process in the coming days.”
Around 1,000 workers have been participating in the strike, picketing outside of DLC’s Woods Run facility in Pittsburgh’s Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood. Workers walked off the job after failed contract negotiations.
