Firefighters rescued dogs while battling a house fire in Allegheny County on Wednesday.
The Penn Hills No. 7 Volunteer Fire Company shared information, saying firefighters were called to the 8800 block of Frankstown Road at around 5:30 p.m. That’s right in the area of the border between Penn Hills and the City of Pittsburgh, so both departments responded.
Firefighters reported seeing smoke coming from the second floor of the the house. They said the fire started in a bedroom and spread into the attic.
Two dogs were found inside the home and were safely removed.
No one else was found inside.
Despite a major challenge that came up when a fire hydrant failed at the scene, crews were able to safely extinguish the flames.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
