PITTSBURGH — As if the upcoming holiday weekend weren’t hectic enough, a big winter storm is threatening to delay and cancel flights across the country.
Luggage was packed, and lines were long at the Pittsburgh International Airport as travelers tried to make it out of town before storm makes its way in.
Channel 11 News was there and spoke to people traveling for the holidays.
The Cercones are flying out to Vegas to be with their son for Christmas, and the possibility of a canceled flight had them on edge.
“I’ve been watching the weather for the last 3 days because they’ve been talking about the ice storms,” said Thomas Cercone. “With the non-stop, the price is right, and everything is working out real good for us.”
Their flight is leaving just in time.
Airport executives expect the busiest day for travel this week to be Thursday, hours before the storm is expected to hit Pittsburgh.
Debbie Wallace told us she’s grateful she picked the right day to fly out of town to visit her daughter across the country.
“Very thankful. Because it’s a long drive to California,” Wallace said.
Wallace told Channel 11 she’ll be thinking of everyone who may not be as lucky as her on the upcoming travel days.
Airport executives predict Thursday and Friday to be the busiest travel days.
