PITTSBURGH — A record shop is marking five decades of filling Pittsburgh with music.
Jerry’s Records in Squirrel Hill South celebrated 50 years in business this weekend.
Along with sales, customers could get food, play games and win prizes.
The current owner says he’s not surprised music stores and vinyl records are still popular today.
“People want a sense of community, they want to get recommendations, they want that person-to-person aspect to music,” Christian Grauzer said. “Music itself is mostly about people together, creating something together.”
Grauzer says he hopes the popularity continues and the store goes for another 50 years.
In 1976, Jerry Weber and Jim Petruzzi opened Record Graveyard, which would later be renamed to Jerry’s Records.
The store now claims to have nearly 1 million used records of all genres in stock.
