PITTSBURGH — A man was arrested after police noticed a dog with a stab wound to its neck.

Pittsburgh police say officers were sent to an apartment complex at around 4:00 p.m on Reifert Street in Knoxville after blood was found in a hallway.

Court documents say police found blood on the carpet in an apartment and on the wall and door frame.

Officers swept the apartment but found no victims. They said they found more blood inside and a large kitchen knife with dried blood on it.

Police then received another call about a man causing a disturbance at the McDonald’s on Brownsville Road.

When police arrived they found Trendon Mobley.

Police said Mobley was with a dog that had stab wounds and lacerations on its neck. The dog was taken to Animal Care and Control for emergency veterinary care.

The man was taken into custody and police said he later confirmed he lived in the apartment they were previously searching.

Court documents say Mobley told police he swung the knife at the dog because it bit him but police say there was no indication on his body that he was bitten.

Veterinarians later told police the dog had suffered extensive blunt force trauma to its head.
