Penn Hills School District says possible strike could affect start of school year

PENN HILLS, Pa. — The Penn Hills School District says a possible strike could affect the start of the school year.

The Educational Support Professionals union — which represents paraprofessionals, secretaries and computer technicians — voted to authorize a strike last month, according to a Thursday letter from Superintendent John Mozzocio.

In the letter, Mozzocio says the school board is waiting on a response from the union after sharing a new offer this week.

The district heads back to class Wednesday.

In case of a strike, the district has developed a contingency plan to limit disruptions, Mozzocio says.

“Our administrative teams are working diligently to ensure that, if necessary, school operations will continue in alignment with the approved academic calendar.”
