A group of Penn State students will soon see their work sent to space.
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is scheduled to launch Sunday.
Named after NASA’s first chief astronomer, the telescope will help astronomers explore dark matter and energy.
Penn State students helped prepare software for the telescope, which will analyze far-away galaxies.
“With these really detailed images of galaxies that the Roman wide survey will detect, we’re able to really get a handle on everything from dark matter to stellar physics,” said Charlotte Ward, assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics at Penn State.
NASA expects to capture and release the first images from Roman toward the end of the year.
