PITTSBURGH — Some Allegheny Health Network patients may have had their personal information exposed in a data breach.
In a public notice, ANH states that the breach occurred on the computer systems of a third-party IT vendor. Unauthorized access to those computer systems started on Oct. 11, 2024, and AHN learned of the incident on Nov. 19, 2024.
Once the incident was discovered, AHN said “immediate steps were taken” to secure patient information and stop unauthorized access to the computer systems.
The impacted systems contained information about patients who received home medical equipment or home infusion services. AHN says an unauthorized user “was able to obtain some of this information.” The personal information that could be affected in this breach includes names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, health insurance identification numbers and other health insurance information, and treatment information including diagnoses, provider information, treatments/procedures, dates of service, prescription information, and medical device serial numbers.
The IT company is notifying all impacted patients. The company will also arrange for identity protection services, including credit monitoring at no charge to all affected individuals, as directed by AHN.
AHN says it’s not aware of any attempted identity theft or fraud because of this incident.
