PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will perform the score of “Star Wars: A New Hope” live alongside a screening of the movie at PPG Paints Arena on May 25, 2027. Led by Associate Conductor Jacob Joyce, the concert marks 50 years to the day since the original film premiered in theaters.
The concert is part of UPMC Movies with the PSO, the orchestra’s film-with-live-orchestra series, which adopted the name following a title sponsorship with UPMC.
The performance replaces a concert previously scheduled at Heinz Hall. Ticket holders for the original Heinz Hall date will receive priority seating at PPG Paints Arena and can contact the Heinz Hall ticket office at 412-392-4900 to receive new tickets.
Melia Tourangeau, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, noted that the move to the arena allows for a larger audience.
“There’s no score more iconic than Star Wars and no better way to mark its 50th anniversary than hearing it performed live by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra,” Tourangeau said. “Bringing the orchestra to PPG Paints Arena lets us share this music with more fans than ever, in a production designed to be as epic as the film itself.”
The arena production will utilize a four-sided videoboard featuring four 50-foot-by-32-foot screens with more than 32 million pixels, two 360-degree LED rings, dynamic lighting and special effects.
The orchestra will perform positioned beneath the main videoboard facing Section 112, with audio broadcast through the venue’s sound system. The arena will also host special activations prior to the show and during intermission.
Tickets start at $45 and will go on sale to the public on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m.
