Apparent murder suicide under investigation in Lawrence County

NESHANNOCK TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman found inside a home in Lawrence County.

Troopers were called to a house near the end of Blair Drive in Neshannock Township shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday for a report of two deceased people.

The Lawrence County Coroner identified them as 65-year-old Jay Fray and his wife, 59-year-old Kathryn Fray.

State police say the preliminary investigation indicates the incident was a murder suicide.

It is not yet clear how the couple died.

Neighbor Frank Marra, who has lived nearby for nearly 20 years, said the situation is hard to comprehend.

“It is an abnormal situation,” Marra said. “You do not look for things happening here.”

Marra described the neighborhood as exceptionally quiet and said he and his wife became concerned when they noticed emergency crews were not leaving the scene.

“When the ambulance did not move, I said this is something bigger,” he said.

He recalled seeing nearly a dozen law enforcement vehicles.

Marra said the couple were friendly and well known in the neighborhood, adding he never heard them argue.

“I knew he was a very, very nice guy. She was very nice and I never heard them squabble,” Marra said.

He also said the couple regularly attended church.

“I see them go to church all the time,” he said.

Family members were seen outside the home on Wednesday gathering belongings.

State police say the investigation is ongoing.
