PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh city officials say they’re prepared for an overnight ice storm that could bring potentially hazardous conditions to the region.
Department of Public Works officials acknowledge that the city itself may not get much ice accumulation, but some surrounding communities could get up to a quarter to four-tenths of an inch of ice, which could make traveling dangerous.

“We understand it might get a little icy overnight. Public Works has your street covered; we have plenty of salt and trucks ready to go. If you are out traveling in the rain, please be aware that the weather can change pretty quick from rain to ice. So go slow and be safe out there,” said Chris Hornstein, with the Department of Public Works.
City officials say the likelihood of icy conditions is highest between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., and could even persist into the early morning hours after temperatures start to increase. Pittsburgh residents are encouraged to avoid non-essential travel overnight.
DPW is monitoring the situation and will update the public as needed.
