Rachel Carson Bridge closing for week starting Tuesday for Picklesburgh

PITTSBURGH — Picklesburgh is back this weekend but this year it will be in a new location and bigger than ever before.

The festival returns this weekend for its seventh year.

The popular event is expected to attract thousands of people to the area.

Last year, the festival was held on the Andy Warhol bridge. This year, Picklesburgh will take place at the Rachel Carson Bridge.

The bridge will be closed for a week starting today.

The Roberto Clemente Bridge is already closed for construction so this additional closure could cause a headache for drivers.

“It’s certainly going to be a little bit more difficult getting to work. I think Picklesburgh is a great thing for the area, not too big of an issue,” said Ryan Stiers.

There will be no posted detours but drivers can get around by using nearby roads.

Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership says the festival will have the largest ever footprint with more space and more vendors.

To reduce congestion on the bridge, most prepared food vendors will now be located along the riverside 10th Street bypass.

There will be live music from local performances and activities for kids too. Many people are excited.

“I think it’s fantastic anything to bring traffic back to downtown,” said Kevin Wozniak. “People can enjoy downtown so downtown can be vibin’ again.”

Picklesburgh is a free event that will run through Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

The Rachel Carson Bridge will be closed until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19.
