Seniors given 30-day-notice to leave Butler care home

BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — On Nov. 7, a letter was sent out to residents and their families with a 30-day notice to leave a Butler County personal care home. Now, families are scrambling, trying to relocate their loved ones.

“Thirty days is laughable,” said Jessica Hoyson, the daughter of a resident.

That’s all the time families have to relocate their loved ones before the doors of the Paramount Senior Living at Cranberry, a dementia and memory loss care facility in Seven Fields, close for good.

“I just started calling and emailing and sending inquiries. At this point, I think I’ve spoken to about 15 locations,” said Hoyson.

Hoyson is an ER nurse, but she’s spending her days making calls and touring facilities for her 70-year-old father Donnie, who suffers from dementia. He’d been a resident at the facility for the past four years.

“They’ve been kind, they’ve been caring, and they have been open and honest about my dad’s needs and their concerns,” said Hoyson.

Hoyson was in disbelief when she opened the letter and saw she had just days to find a new facility.

“Not that there’s ever a great time for this to happen, but right before the holidays adds a little bit more anxiety and stress,” said Hoyson.

We contacted the CEO of Paramount Health Resources Inc., James Cox, to ask why they’re closing and why such short notice was given.

“The factor that really drove the decision to close the building, post-pandemic, were the issues with the cost and staffing,” said Cox.

The rising salary costs increased family costs by 20%. He said that pushed more patients away.

Despite the short notice, Cox said families were given the option to relocate to their South Hills location.

As for Hoyson, she said she would rather not continue her father’s care with the company.
