Pittsburgh street closures set for CCAC 60th anniversary celebration

PITTSBURGH — Street closures will take effect on Pittsburgh’s North Side beginning Friday, as the Community College of Allegheny County hosts a festival to celebrate its 60th anniversary this Saturday.

The CCAC Homecoming Festival will take place on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. The free event marks six decades since the college was established, opening the main campus, Ridge Avenue and surrounding areas of Allegheny Commons to students, alumni and the public.

Ridge Avenue and Brighton Road will be closed to vehicle traffic surrounding the college’s main campus from 5 p.m. Friday until 11 p.m. Saturday.

The live stage entertainment lineup features local talent and musical acts. Scheduled performers include DJ Selecta, the CCAC Choir, Calvin Stemley & Stemtecs, Steeltown Horns with Big Jus, NASH.V.ILL and the Bill Henry Band, along with a showcase highlighting homegrown performers.

Interactive activities will be hosted across dedicated areas on campus. The CNX Kids Zone will offer train rides, a pirate obstacle course, rock climbing, face painting and crafts. The Advanced Manufacturing Zone, presented by Standard Bots, will feature robotics demonstrations and interactive activities.

A market area will showcase local artists, small businesses and organizations focused on education, career development, health, public service and community support. Food vendors will offer a variety of menu items, including Ghanaian, Jamaican and Italian cuisine, classic hot dogs and vegan options.

Limited free parking will be available for festival attendees. College officials encourage visitors to consider using public transportation or rideshare services to access the campus.
