Couple takes matter into own hands when burglar confronts them in their home, police say

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Harrison couple took matters into their own hands when a burglar confronted them in their home Saturday night.

Police said the woman pushed the burglar out the front door while the man grabbed his gun, forcing the suspect to the ground and holding him at gunpoint in his front yard until police came.

Police arrested 30-year-old Casey Hill in the front yard. He was charged with burglary, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Court documents said Hill told police he walked right up the front steps and opened the front door of the Pine Street duplex, looking for marijuana.

One of the homeowners told Channel 11 News they were hosting a family dinner and were sitting out front when a friend started yelling that a man entered the home and was walking up the steps.

“I get that he protected his home. That kind of makes you want to be able to protect your home because what if he didn’t have that gun? That guy probably would’ve gotten away. That man stayed there because he was held at gunpoint,” Mia Greenwald, a neighbor, said.

Police said Hill was extremely drunk and had to be helped to the police car because he was so unsteady on his feet.

The couple also told police a Jeep sped away from the scene, and it's possible the driver was with Hill.

Hill is now out of jail. He'll have a preliminary hearing Oct. 9.
