Some neighbors upset by South Fayette Township government using taxpayer money to go to resort

SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Neighbors in South Fayette Township are frustrated after learning members of the local government spent taxpayer money to go to a resort.

Residents have taken to social media and are now speaking out at township meetings, expressing anger over four commissioners using taxpayer money at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort and Spa for a meeting that cost between $10,000 and $20,000.

11 Investigates received a copy of the receipts from the meeting. According to documents, four commissioners, several spouses, the township manager and a consultant stayed the night.

Sherry Korczynski, who spoke out at a recent meeting about the issue, spoke with Channel 11′s Cara Sapida.

“I feel it’s important for taxpayers to know how our money is spent,” Korczynski said.

11 Investigates reached out to commissioners, and only Commissioner Lisa Malosh replied.

Malosh is the only commissioner who did not attend the meeting.

“I feel it was an egregious waste of taxpayers’ money,” Malosh said in a statement. “We could have accomplished that meeting here by holding it in the township, where residents could have participated if they wanted to and with very little expense.”

Township manager John Barrett tells 11 Investigates they advertised the meeting in the local paper and awarded the consultant agreement at a public meeting.

Barrett said the event was meant to set the commissioner’s vision for the coming year and identify the board’s priority.
