‘I want justice’: Aunt of 15-year-old shot, killed in Ambridge speaks to Channel 11

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — The aunt of the 15-year-old boy who was shot and killed in Ambridge tells us her nephew’s name is Asaun Moreland.

“I want justice! I want justice! Who gives someone the right to take someone’s child away from them? You’re not god to just take his life,” the aunt said.

Asaun was one of the two teenagers who was shot and killed in Beaver County over the weekend.

“What did he do to you so bad that you wanted to shoot a 14-year-old in the middle of the street? What gives you the right to do that?” she asked.

The other teen killed was 15-year-old Dahvea Sparrow. We spoke to his family over the weekend.

“He was a kid. I won’t be one of those ‘not my child’ parents. He got in trouble. He did things just like everybody else did but he did not deserve that,” Dahvea’s mother, Nicole Sparrow, told Channel 11.

Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker made a Facebook post saying two babies were lost in less than 24 hours and is urging someone to come forward with information.

Back in Ambridge, where Asaun was killed, investigators were using a drone on Monday to map out the scene.

His aunt has a message for the person who killed her nephew: “What did he do to you so bad that you wanted to shoot a 14-year-old in the middle of the street? What gives you the right to do that?”

Police have arrested one person in the Ambridge murder, but are looking for another man who ran off.

Several members of Asaun Moreland’s family tearfully sat in on the Beaver County DA and Ambridge Police Chief’s new conference, when they announced that Nashean Hunt was charged in the 15-year-old’s death.

One shooter is still on the loose.

“The two individuals were wearing dark hoodies face masks and dark pants. They were following Mr. Moreland through Ambridge. He was clearly aware he was being followed. He attempted to evade and run toward the end, and the other individuals caught up to him,” Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier said.

Police say Hunt and the other man shot Asaun four times, and killed him execution style.

If it weren’t for the help of the community, investigators say they may have not caught Hunt so quickly.

“The citizens that risked their own safety tracking these guys as they ran throughout our community. This wasn’t just one block. The citizens went above and beyond to track these people, 8-10 blocks and pointed out cameras for us and the exact paths they took,” Ambridge Police Chief John DeLuca said.

SWAT officers eventually found Hunt inside of his apartment on Olive Lane.

When we went there today, crews were making repairs to the apartment, and replacing the front door.

We spoke to the landlord over the phone, who told us he’s saddened for the community of Ambridge.

“These situations that we are having in communities all over the county, of juveniles being out of control…this is what it takes… for citizens to step up and for people to talk. That’s how we solve crimes like this,” Chief DeLuca said.

Police are still investigating on whether the Ambridge shooting and the deadly shooting of Dahvea Sparrow in Aliquippa are connected.
