PITTSBURGH — The City of Pittsburgh is giving residents a chance to highlight their “haunted houses.”

For the first time ever, Pittsburgh is holding a Halloween house decorating contest.

Officials are calling on people to decorate their houses or properties, or to team up with neighbors to decorate entire blocks with spooky trimmings.

Only properties within the City of Pittsburgh’s borders will be considered, and all decorations must be paid for at the owners’ own expense.

Participants can submit their creepy creations into one of the following categories:

  • Spookiest Individual Home
  • Spookiest Street
  • Best Overall Decor
  • Most Creative Design
  • Public Vote
  • The Mayor’s Choice

Submissions can be made online between now and Oct. 23.

On Oct. 24, members of the public will be able to vote for their favorite submissions. Winners will be announced on Oct. 30.

Voting will open on the same website where submissions are sent.
