‘Just disheartening’: Hampton Township home burglarized while family attended funeral

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Neighbors are shocked after Hampton Township police said a home along Ash Drive was broken into on Tuesday in the middle of the day between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

It was the same time the family was at a service at a funeral home for the passing of their father.

“Hard time in their life and they come home to something like that,’ said neighbor Steve Swierczynski.

Police believe the burglary was targeted. They think the suspect looked up the obituary and saw the time for the service when no one would likely be at the house.

“It was just disheartening because we never had a problem here before. All the neighbors are nice. We all get along. It’s a quiet neighborhood,” said Swierczynski.

The man who died lived in the home with his wife. Police said a window in the back of the house was smashed and several items were stolen, including thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

“We feel very sorry for them. I hope they catch whoever did it,” said Swierczynski.

Right now, Hampton Township police are investigating and asking neighbors to check their surveillance cameras and to call them if they have any video that could help them in this case.
