A Lawrence County-based fireworks supplier helped make history.
Pyrotecnico Inc., which is headquartered outside New Castle, and Freedom 250 set the Guinness World Records title for the largest fireworks display on July 4.
The display over the National Mall in Washington featured 840,537 fireworks.
According to Pyrotecnico’s website, the display took six months to design and three weeks to set up. More than 50 trucks and 75 crew members were needed to make it happen.
Over 160,000 pounds of fireworks were set off during the 40-minute show, which used eight barges on the Potomac River as launch sites.
“It was an honor to help mark this milestone for our country,” Pyrotecnico President Rocco Vitale said. “Our team worked through extreme heat and long days to create a show that lived up to this once-in-a-generation moment. What we wanted was for people to walk away believing they saw the best fireworks display of their lives, a proud, patriotic memory to pass down for generations.”
Pyrotecnico says the previous record was held by Iglesia Ni Cristo in the Philippines.
