WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Parents are not happy after transportation troubles plagued the first days of school in the West Mifflin School District.
A number have reached out to Channel 11 with concerns.
“[The] last two days have been very frustrating,” Jacob Figueroa told Channel 11. He has four kids at three different buildings.
He says they’ve endured bus rides of 90 minutes or more.
It’s the same story for Amanda Drane. She lives just a three-mile drive from Homeville Elementary, but her kids didn’t get home until 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
“I spent the entire time in my car crying while my husband drove around all over West Mifflin trying to find them,” she said.
The district uses Krise Transportation. It’s the first year with the company. Both Amanda and Jacob told Channel 11 they never had issues with the previous company, Sun Coach Lines.
“I don’t think the bus company, itself, did very well training if they did training at all,” Figueroa said.
We reached out to Krise and were sent a statement in response reading in part:
“We know yesterday didn’t go the way any of us hoped, and we apologize [...] We understand what that disruption means for your family’s morning and your peace of mind, and we don’t take it lightly. Our team is reviewing every route and bus assignment each day to find and fix issues.”
We asked both parents if they were satisfied with that response.
“Not even a little bit. It’s a very blanket apology,” Drane said.
“That is not good enough at all. I believe the drivers and the company should be penalized in some sort of way,” Figueroa said.
As for the district, leaders issued a statement on social media telling families they are working with Krise to address the problems.
In the meantime, Amanda says she’ll be picking her kids up for the foreseeable future.
Jacob, who has also had issues at morning pick-up, says he’ll continue dropping his kids off until he’s comfortable.
