GREENSBURG, Pa. — A non-profit animal rescue in Westmoreland County made a six-hour drive to save six puppies who were found abandoned in a coal mine shaft in West Virginia.

Sharyn Fisher, the owner of Fisher’s Furry Friends of PA in Greensburg, told Channel 11 this is the second set of puppies they’ve saved from Wyoming County, West Virginia.

The first nine were left in an abandoned camper with no heat. The puppies were only being fed bread.

The most recent set of puppies was found in an abandoned mine shaft.

Fisher said that there are no resources or rescues in the area where the puppies were found, so they agreed to go pick them up and bring them to their rescue.

Fisher said she started her rescue only 4 and a half months ago and has already taken in over 250 abandoned animals. All have been local except these two sets of puppies.

The puppies from the first rescue are all up for adoption. The second set of puppies are expected to make their debut at the rescue’s “Puppy Palooza Meet and Greets.

The rescue has started a GoFundMe to help with vet bills. If you would like to help, click here.
