Ortiz struggles, Pirates’ bats silenced in 4-0 loss to Tigers

DETROIT — It sounds like a broken record at this point but the Pittsburgh Pirates’ offense failed to do much of anything against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Tuesday night.

The offensive woes combined with a shaky outing from Luis Ortiz resulted in a 4-0 loss for the Pirates.

Ortiz labored through a 32-pitch first inning in which the Tigers plated a pair of runs. Javier Báez hit an opposite-field single to get Detroit on the board before Spencer Torkelson drove him in with a double to put the Tigers up 2-0.
