MIDLAND, Pa. — DL Williams Funeral Home in Midland, Beaver County, is closed for business and the building was sold this month to Lincoln Park Performing Arts School, according to county records.
Owner Debbie Williams tells Channel 11 letters were sent to people who pre-paid for funeral arrangements with details on their options.
But when Paula Chisom recently saw demolition signs going up around the former funeral home, she became concerned about future arrangements for her elderly parents.
“They were going to be cremated so it was like $3,500, but for people who go all out, funerals can be an excess of $10-15,000,” Chisom said.
Despite pre-paying in May of 2022, Chisom said her parents were never notified by Debbie or the funeral home.
So, Chisom started calling around to track Debbie down.
“She said that she had a fire so she doesn’t have some of her records for these prepaid funerals and she wanted to know what I wanted to do and if I could send her a copy of this,” Chisom said.
Debbie also told Channel 11 that some records were lost in a small fire last winter.
She said anyone who hasn’t received a letter should contact her directly at 412-877-3604. She said she’s also putting a notice in the Beaver County Times.
“I spoke with her today and she said she will be mailing a check to my dad,” Chisom said.
Chisom is hopeful her parents will see the money soon and that other people are not caught off guard by the closure.
“When somebody passes, it’s all of a sudden so you’re in a timeframe where you have to get ahold of someone if there’s a prepaid funeral,” Chisom said.
