Andrew Havranek is an award-winning journalist who joined WPXI Channel 11 News in April 2023 as the Westmoreland County Bureau Chief. As a Beaver County native, he's thrilled to be reporting in his 'hometown.' Andrew grew up in Patterson Township, graduating from Blackhawk High School in 2010, and from Duquesne University in 2014. To start his career in journalism, Andrew spent three years at WDTV 5 News in Bridgeport, West Virginia. There, he spent time as a reporter, producer, and anchor. He won several awards from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association, including Best Photojournalist in 2015, and Best Morning Newscast in 2016 and 2017. Andrew then went to the Midwest, spending three years at KY3/KSPR in Springfield, Missouri. He served the station as the Lake of the Ozarks Bureau Chief, covering the lake region and the Missouri State Capitol. There, he covered the scandals that led to the resignation of Missouri's Governor Eric Greitens in 2018, the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2018 U.S. Midterm Election and U.S. Senate Race, and more. His work covering the Greitens scandals was recognized by the Kansas City Press Club. He also reported on accusations that a local public works director was improperly dumping partially treated sewage near the Lake of the Ozarks. His investigation led to the Public Works Director's demotion, and his investigation was recognized by the Missouri Broadcasters Association. In November 2020, Andrew moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a reporting job at Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin. There, he covered several high-profile trials including the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, and the trial of Darrell Brooks, the man who drove his SUV into the 2021 Waukesha Christmas Parade. His live tweeting of those trials won Milwaukee Press Club awards. He also covered the Milwaukee Bucks' 2021 NBA Championship run. While with Spectrum News, Andrew also reported nationally for the Spectrum News Network, covering the anniversary of the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and the Fourth of July Parade Shooting in a Chicago suburb. Andrew is a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan and is excited to again be able to root for the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates at home.
